Allotment Security

Allotment Security

Thefts from allotments is becoming very widespread along with gratuitous vandalism .

Thefts of fresh fruit and veg are common as well the theft of expensive tools, which can entail not only breaking into sheds and stores but some have also been torn down and burned .

The whole site security should be a matter for the allotment management committee and whilst not ever site can have razor wire topped security fence to protect the plots some boundary enclosure is normal. This is usually a hawthorn hedge and a padlocked gate.

Trying to prevent theft of produce from outsiders, and possibly site insiders, is very difficult without 24hr surveliance cameras. Some basic security measures can be taken to protect your tools and shed / store particularly during the winter months when sites are not as heavily populated with plot holders.

The two sections show basic padlocks and hasps for doors and gateways and our Buildings and Tools section shows devices and labeling to protect the shed/ store and its contents.
