Allotment Cutting & Clearing
Allotment cutting and clearing is often undertaken when you acquire a new or neglected allotment plot. They can also be invaluable at the end of season to trim back hedgerows often found invading the plot. A neglected plot may have brambles and hedgerow shrubs established in the plot so we recommend some cutting tools to remove the above ground growth and then some digging tools to ‘grub out’ the invasive roots.
Once these have been cleared digging and enriching the plot soil can begin.
Various cutting tools are available to cut back brambles and branches, for example secateurs or pruning saws. Digging tools such as a mattock can be used to remove stubborn roots and open up hard or compacted ground ready for cultivation.
